Darke County General Health District Employee & Help Me Grow Home Visitor

Reports to: Help Me Grow Supervisor Position/Director of Nursing
Hours: Approximately 24 hours/week, Part-time/temporary/possibility of becoming permanent
Salary: Range depends on qualifications
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of the Help Me Grow Supervisor/ Director of Nursing the Home Visitor will provide home visiting for the expectant, first-time and other parents at highest risk for poor childhood outcomes to receive the services and rights which the rules require, including the procedural safeguards. The Home Visitor will conduct home visits, work with families to provide increased parent knowledge of child development, provide parenting education and conduct developmental screenings. The Home Visitor will assist families in meeting their family goals and will coordinate services to the family and become a major support for the parent(s).
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Associate’s Degree from a council on higher education accredited college or university in a field related to working with pregnant women, infants, or toddlers, or families or individuals with disabilities; Must obtain a Home Visitor Credential and Skills Inventory test within first year of employment (and continued renewal of Home Visitor Credential). Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets the insurability requirements of the District’s insurance provider. Must be able to provide a private vehicle for job use.
Preferred: One year home visiting experience or equivalent. Registered Nurse or Licensed Social Worker. Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of interviewing, counseling, education techniques, child development, Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, community resources and services, human and public relations, case management. Use of modern office equipment and software including use of computer for state required data entry. Skills in performing developmental family screenings. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Must also demonstrate the ability to prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports.
