Darke County Seeks Volunteers for Bio-terrorism Response

The Darke County General Health District’s Bio-terrorism Team is seeking partners from the community to volunteer in the event of a disaster. After the events of September 11, 2001, it became clear to all Americans that terrorism could quickly overwhelm existing local response efforts. Being prepared can help minimize disability and death resulting from a disaster.

Part of being prepared involves having a registry of volunteers. We desperately need those trained in the health care professions to sign up. However, we need a variety of skills and a variety of individuals to fill volunteer spots. These areas include, but are not limited to:  security officers, factory laborers, farmers, managers, and data entry personnel. If you have a skill, we can use you. If you don’t have a skill, we will find one for you!  Anyone and everyone are valuable to this organization.

To show appreciation for your willingness to serve on this team, you and your family will have first opportunity to receive vaccinations or medications, should the need arise. For example, if there is an outbreak of Anthrax, you and your family will be first to receive the antibiotic needed to protect against the infection. Free of charge.

Anyone who is interested in signing up, please contact the Darke County General Health District, 937-548-4196 ext 202. More information may be requested at that time.  Let’s unite now so we can be ready to respond when disaster strikes.

Thank you for your support.
